With the recent Denim update hitting this month to various Lumia smartphones, Flagship devices such as the 1520 and 930 (Icon) have received a nice bump from 1080p to 4k video recording. In addition, some of the other camera updates greatly improve the image algorithms for low light conditions, The Lumia camera app also has a quicker launch time, that allows a much faster response, with a 1.5 second pocket to picture capture time (for those photo moments that always seem to come at random). Microsoft Band Keyboard and Update impressions

The Microsoft Band hits the headlines today as it gets a decent update with several welcomed features, the largest change being the keyboard. In this quick video impression, we will look at the messaging functionality, which allows you to reply to text messages in a quick and more detailed manner, than the pre-defined messages that it had prior to this update. I personally think this feature works really well, and opens up new paths for developers to take advantage of going down the road. My Windows Phone Game collection (September)

Since my conversion over to the lovely and promising Windows Phone platform, I have really been impressed by the amount of games that have been gracing the platform. These aren’t your run of the mill, no name apps that you may see in the past, but actual apps that are big in the iOS and Play store. Interestingly enough, some of these apps actually release the same day as other platforms or within the same week. Windows Phone users have it really good in comparison to the struggling BlackBerry ecosystem I recently had experience of trying out. At the same time, it doesn’t quite compare to the overwhelming amount of apps on the Play store, when I was rocking an Android. I think that we have a good balance, and Windows Phone is showing steady growth, (more…)

Developer Spotlight: From A Themer’s Perspective Part 2

Posted on: October 26th, 2012 by Gage Castillo No Comments

Before I get into our developer spotlight of the day, I wanted to address some issues and talk that has been surrounding this series since our first entry posted last week. There has been claims that this series is a “drag for attention”, and that it is in the BlackBerry’s fan base best interest to just move on from these types of articles. Another claim was that we are aiming to hurt RIM’s reputation with the posts of these articles. So let’s make this clear, SliceoftheNet does not post any content that the writer is not passionate about, we do not aim to profit off readership period. As the owner of SliceoftheNet, I am an avid BlackBerry fan, who is excited for what the future holds for BlackBerry and I am in this for the long haul, despite what decisions RIM makes for the platform. It simply comes down to this, if you don’t like what we are posting, please feel free to remove us from your bookmarks and social feeds. Finally, I want to thank our own Scott Burns for making this series happen! Without him, I wouldn’t be doing this. Thank you Scott!

Todays Developer spotlight falls on a Theme dev best known by the name of Mobster Mobile Designs, who surprisingly to my own experience has been a very pleasant and fun person to converse with. I recently was acquainted with Jennifer over certain tweets with mutual friends, I couldn’t help being drawn to the positive energy she gives off when she tweets, It was a no brainer to follow her! It wasn’t until recently, I made the connection with the work she has done on the Theme dev side, having personally recommended themes she has created in the past to my friends. Her work speaks for itself, being clean, clever and overall inspiring productivity. For a full look at her work you can check her out on BlackBerry App World or her personal website: We asked her the same questions as our last interviewee, let’s see how she answers: Read the full interview!
